Fundashon Aistensia Kwido-mediko Isla ( A K I ) was founded in May 2000 and became operational in March 2001. The purpose of the fund is to cover medical expenses of the Isla personnel after retirement at the age of sixty.

The board of the fund consists of two members from the employer Refineria Isla, two members from the Labour Union, two members from the Staff Representative body and the Pensioners may also appoint two members when there are 100 active pensioner participants in the fund.
The president of the board is an independent person which is selected and appointed by the board.
The participants pay premium based on a percentage of their income.
Besides the premium of the participants, the fund gets a fixed contribution from Refineria Isla and also contribution from the productivity bonus, when such a bonus is paid to the Isla personnel.
